“COVID-19 was a disaster for many of us as income from traditional sources dried up. However,it did have a little silver lining. Transgender, as usual, were missing from the governmentdirectory of welfare, but we have to look out for our community”, says Dr. Yoga Nambiar. Dr.Nambiar had a trust named Global Rights which was later registered as Global RightsFoundation (GRF) to carry out massive reliefprojects for the suppressed transgender. For Dr. Nambiar, coronavirus played the role of alarmto do something that could help TG to live a respectful life.
There is a lot to be done to empower the transgender community. It starts right from the MASHAL has been providing trainers through CSR partners. There is still a larger need for howto mobilize transgender as only giving skill courses won’t help. Puneri Pride & GRF has outlinedfew plans to grow big and for which it is raising funds. Both organizations are also creating theironline presence so the world can know- 'I am trans' is normal. Giving circle is helping bothorganizations to stand independently, for which MASHAL is helping in monetary terms.
