Empowering Families Through Welfare Scheme Access

Pallavi Amit Gavare, aged 34, is a homemaker. Her family originally belongs to Talegaon Dabhade near Pune and has been living in Sayyadnagar, Hadapsar, Pune for the past 11 years. She lives with her 12-year-old son Shreyas and her 60-year-old mother-in-law, Anusaya Gavare. Her father-in-law and husband were both employed with MSEB. After her father-in-law’s death, the family depended on her husband’s income.

In October 2020, her husband Amit contracted COVID-19 and passed away. After his death, Pallavi became responsible for the family’s livelihood. The household currently survives on her father-in-law’s pension. Despite these challenges, she continued her education and pursued opportunities to obtain employment in place of her late husband.

Under Project Future DBT, representatives from Mashal visited her home, verified documents, and provided information about various government welfare schemes. They explained scheme benefits, eligibility requirements, documentation, and application procedures.

During the review, it was found that although Pallavi was eligible for several schemes, she was aware of only one child welfare scheme and had applied only for that. The representatives informed her about additional schemes, including ex-gratia assistance, women’s empowerment schemes, and the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.

Based on this guidance, Pallavi applied for all three schemes. Within 15 days, her application for ex-gratia assistance was approved and she received ₹50,000. She stated that this financial support provided significant relief to her family and helped support her son’s education. Applications for the remaining schemes were still under process, and she expressed hope that they would also be approved soon. She appreciated the project and thanked the organization for supporting families like hers.
