Disasters Hit the Most Vulnerable First
Urban slum communities, informal settlements, migrant workers, daily wage earners, and marginalised populations face the greatest exposure to disasters — and the least support when they strike. Without preparedness, early warning, and rapid response systems, the impact deepens every time.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, MASHAL, in partnership with CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort), a US-based crisis response organization, implemented the Corona Kavach Kit Distribution Project to support vulnerable families living in urban slums and high-risk settlements in Pune.

The devastating landslide in Malin village, Pune district, resulted in extensive loss of life, property, and livelihoods, leaving the affected community in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, rehabilitation, and long-term resettlement support.
In the aftermath of the devastating 1993 Latur earthquake, thousands of families lost their homes, livelihoods, and social support systems. Among the most vulnerable were destitute women, including widows, single women, and female-headed households who faced significant challenges in rebuilding their lives and securing adequate shelter.
