From Awareness to Financial Assistance

From Awareness to Financial Assistance

Yasmin Nurmohammad Pathan, aged 37, originally belongs to Jalgaon. About 10 years ago, she and her husband settled in Kondhwa, Pune. Her husband, Nurmohammad, ran his own interior design business, while Yasmin was a homemaker. She studied up to Class 12. In 2016, they had a daughter, and the family depended on her husband’s income.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, her husband contracted the virus and was hospitalized. His condition deteriorated and he passed away on 7 May 2021 due to COVID-19.

Following his sudden death, Yasmin became solely responsible for raising her six-year-old daughter. Despite the difficult circumstances, she completed a handwriting training course and started conducting handwriting classes. However, the income was only enough to meet basic household expenses.

In April 2022, Tarachand Ramanath Seva Trust and Mashal initiated Project Future DBTI to help families who had lost members to COVID-19 access government welfare schemes. Representatives visited Yasmin’s home, reviewed her documents, and explained various schemes available to her. These included the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Scheme, ex-gratia assistance, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Women Empowerment Schemes, Child Welfare Schemes, and Post Office savings schemes. They also explained eligibility criteria, required documents, benefits, and application procedures.

After receiving this information, Yasmin better understood how to follow up on previously submitted applications. She learned about the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Scheme for the first time and decided to apply for it. She stated that the financial assistance available through these schemes would greatly help her support her family and secure her daughter’s future. She expressed sincere gratitude to Mashal and Tarachand Ramanath Seva Trust for their support.
