Case Study of Business Group Support

The Samruddhi program has been running since 2015 to make positive difference in the lives of slum communities. Mashal is implementing Samruddhi project in 6 slums namely Shinde wasti, Gosavi wasti, Lohiya Wasti, Sainath wasti, Tarawade wasti and Mahatma Phule wasti. 

There are so many problems in slum area. i.e,electricity problem, roads, pollution, lack of basic needs, safe drinking water, lack of education, sanitation, unemployment. In the case of slum areas, the starting point should be to focus on improving the living conditions of the dwellers. So as we have identified the poor socio economic condition of community people. Then we came to know the need of business group support for needy potential people, which will help them to increase their income. So we have distributed supportive business material to 13 beneficiaries from 6 project slums in 2019. i.e., sewing machine, hand carts, vegetables crate, electronic weight machine, bricklayer material. Because of this support the monthly income of those beneficiaries is increased as compared to previous income.

Mangala Bapu Wadekar who lives in Sainath vasahat. There are 6 members are in family as family’s economic condition is very week. Her son is tempo driver who is having 3 daughters taking education. Mangala wadekar is skilled with stitching old clothes. Her daughter-in-law is also joining the sewing classes. But their old machine was not in proper condition. During survey our animator indentified a need of that family. So we supported that family with swing machine and swing material. It runs by electricity so more easy to operate. Their previous daily income was only Rs. 50. But now in average her monthly income is Rs. 3940 and profit is Rs. 2600. 

She said, “Because of John Deere I got the machine. It is run by light so no need to work by legs. That’s why my leg and knee pain is decreased now. I can operate this machine very easily. Previously I can only stitch clothes but now I can Pico fall of saree also. My customers are also very happy and satisfied by my work now. I am very thankful to Mashal for supporting me with swing machine.”
