Transforming Schools into Safe, Inclusive and Engaging Learning Spaces

Improving Zilla Parishad and aided schools through infrastructure upgrades, new sanitation facilities, digital classrooms, school beautification, and hygiene education – creating child-friendly learning environments across Maharashtra & other States.

Introduction

Child-Centred School Development

MASHAL improves Zilla Parishad and aided schools by creating safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environments.

The intervention includes:

    • Classroom renovation and school beautification
    • Separate toilets for boys and girls
    • Handwashing and safe drinking water facilities
    • Solar power installation
    • Smart classrooms, computer and science labs
    • Libraries and learning resources
    • Anganwadi construction and learning materials
    • Educational, hygiene, and sports kits

Education Begins with a Safe Space

Thousands of rural schools in Maharashtra lack basic sanitation, clean water, safe classrooms, and functional learning materials. For girls, children with disabilities, and students from marginalised communities, these gaps mean missed days, missed opportunities, and missed futures.

Poor school infrastructure directly affects:

    • Student attendance and retention, especially for girls
    • Health and hygiene outcomes for all children
    • Dignity and safety — particularly for adolescent girls
    • Learning engagement and academic performance
    • Inclusion of children with disabilities
    • Community trust in public education systems

MASHAL believes every child deserves a school where they feel safe, seen, and supported — regardless of where they were born.

Community-Driven, Practically Built

MASHAL combines needs-based assessment, technical construction expertise, and strong community participation to deliver school upgradation projects that are durable, dignified, and community-owned.

The proess includes:

    • Baseline needs assessment of school infrastructure
    • Stakeholder consultation with SMCs, teachers, and parents
    • Construction and renovation with quality oversight
    • Hygiene and menstrual health awareness sessions
    • Educational and hygiene kit distribution
    • Handover with community maintenance capacity building
    • Post-project monitoring and documentation

Transforming Schools. Changing Lives.

MASHAL’s school upgradation work has turned neglected rural schools into child-friendly spaces where girls attend confidently, children with disabilities function independently, and communities have renewed their trust in public education. Every toilet block, water station, and kit distributed has been a step toward dignity, inclusion, and better learning.
